Kakano 1

Elmer the   Elephant Over the past few weeks we have been focusing on on one of our school values; Caring. We have been making sure we are caring towards our friends, taking turns and sharing and looking after our equipment. This week we have been reading some stories about Elmer the elephant. Beach Trip On Wednesday Kakano 1 and 3 went to New Brighton beach to learn all about our beaches. We learnt about natural items on the beach and manmade items.                                 We went on a scavenger hunt to find these different things. Some natural items that we found were driftwood/sticks, seaweed, shells, stones, sand and feathers. Some manmade items we found were bits of rubbish like; cans, plastic, rope, clothing and bottles . We learnt that we need to look after our beaches by taking our rubbish away with us and putting it in the correct bins. We need to make sure we don't leave rubbish on the roads so that it doesn't go into the waterways and out to sea. 

This week in Kakano 1 we have been practicing writing our names, letters and some high frequency words. Take a look at how good we are getting at forming letters and writing our names!

Well done to all the children who participated in our school cross country on Thursday. It was a fantastic afternoon in the sun and everyone ran so well.   It was also great to see the children being courageous and persevering when their run may have got tough!
