Over the last few weeks we have been learning how to use a new app on the ipad called Bee-bot. Bee-bot is an app where you need to give the Bee-bot instructions to get to a certain place. (This game is great for improving children's skills in directional languag e and programming through sequences of forwards, backwards, left and right 90 degrees.) But before we started using new app we learnt how to be Bee-bot's ourselves. We drew some squares on our carpet and put a flower down for the end point. This week we have welcomed some new friends into Miss Shannon's Kakano 1 class. To get to know each other we created some 'All about me posters'. Our posters include a picture of ourselves, some drawings of our family, favourite food, animals and something we enjoy doing. We used pencils, pastels and dye to make our amazing pictures.
Beach Trip On Wednesday Kakano 1 and 3 went to New Brighton beach to learn all about our beaches. We learnt about natural items on the beach and manmade items. We went on a scavenger hunt to find these different things. Some natural items that we found were driftwood/sticks, seaweed, shells, stones, sand and feathers. Some manmade items we found were bits of rubbish like; cans, plastic, rope, clothing and bottles . We learnt that we need to look after our beaches by taking our rubbish away with us and putting it in the correct bins. We need to make sure we don't leave rubbish on the roads so that it doesn't go into the waterways and out to sea.
